Katherine is 300kms south of Darwin as you travel down the Stuart Highway.



Many people drive to Katherine from Darwin. There are three main road-side stops with cafes, fuel, bathroom amenities and some accommodation. There are also a number of car rental companies in Katherine.


The national Greyhound Australia bus service stops in Katherine, on the way south to Alice Springs via the Stuart Highway or west to the Kimberley via the Victoria Highway.

Rail - the Ghan

The Great Southern Rail the Ghan runs through the centre of Australia from Adelaide to Darwin, and Katherine is one of the major visiting destinations.


There are no direct flights into Katherine. You will need to fly Darwin and then make your way down to Katherine by road, bus or rail.  


There are a number of accommodation options in Katherine including motels, serviced apartments and camping/caravan sites.

Arts NT (Northern Territory) is a branch of the government Department of Arts and Museums. Arts NT supports, develops and promotes growth of the creative arts sector for the benefit of the Territory, visitors, the community and economy. Arts NT was involved in the development of Godinymayin and continues to be involved in the on-going operations of the centre. 

Katherine Town Council 

The Katherine Town Council offers a number of cultural opportunities to the people of Katherine including providing significant support to Godinymayin.

Artback NT: Arts Development and Touring

Artback NT: Arts Development and Touring is the Northern Territory’s visual and performing arts touring agency. They provide our centre with an array of exceptional visual and performing arts events. 

Katherine Regional Arts

Katherine Regional Arts supports local artists and facilitates community cultural development in the region. The organisation is the engine room for information about arts and culture in the region and they also have their own fabulous events and workshops.

Mimi Aboriginal Art & Craft is an Aboriginal owned and operated not for profit art centre that represents artists from the Katherine region.

Djilpin Arts

Djilpin Arts Aboriginal Corporation is a not for profit organisation based in the Beswick (Wugular) community of the Northern Territory. It maintains, develops and promotes traditional and contemporary Indigenous visual and performing arts of the Katherine and Arnhem regions.
