The WOW - Women of the World - Festival is a global festival originating at London's prestigious arts and culture centre, Southbank London.
WOW celebrates the formidable strength and inventiveness of girls and women, where people of all ages and backgrounds can applaud their achievements but also examine the obstacles that prevent them from achieving their full potential. The weekend festival includes lively debates and presentations, workshops, music, comedy, parades and visual arts exhibitions.
In 2013 WOW London expanded internationally. Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts & Culture Centre, Katherine was chosen as one of only two Australian sites to host a WOW Festival, the other being the Sydney Writer's Festival.
There are now WOW festivals happening in New York and Baltimore, India, Brisbane and across the UK. Each WOW is rooted in its local area but becomes part of the global WOW network and festivals feed into each other, swapping stories, supporting and inspiring each other, creating a network of people and ideas.
'I am thrilled by this wonderful invitation to create WOW with the amazing women in Katherine. The pioneering spirit of the town and region is well known and this festival gives a chance to celebrate the contribution of girls and women past and present and to contribute to the global debate on equality as an essential human right.' Jude Kelly OBE, Artistic Director, Southbank Centre, and founder of WOW London
